Programmes & pathways

Designed for health, safety and long-term athlete development, the Champions Programme engages young people aged 9 to 18 to enjoy the physical, mental and social benefits of a structured exercise programme. This programme delivers a natural developmental pathway for any members wanting to progress from basic techniques to completing on the international stage.
A structured and graded pathway guiding athletes through stages of PLAY, PRACTICE, PARTICIPATION and PERFORMANCE. Our coaching pathway mirrors this, providing progression through each level of the Champions Programme and its associated assessments.
Development Events are an opportunity for CHAMPIONS PROGRAMME Graduates to display their technical ability and skills in a tightly controlled, semi-competitive bout, where success is determined by overall performance and positive attitude.
8 core values which are foundational to fostering positive environments and supporting our vision of championing young people who contribute to their communities. Participants have the opportunity to recite and embody these values, and can receive a life membership as a result.
We partner with Child Matters for Child Protection training and Ara Taiohi for youth development frameworks within a NZ context, ensuring that our people are well equipped to work alongside Kiwi kids across the country.

What's the process for becoming a Partner?
Getting Started
Building a strong partnership begins with getting to know each other and ensuring we’re aligned. Just as you'll have questions for us, we're keen to understand how you recognise the need for this initiative in your community and whether you have the backing of your community.
You will be connected to our Regional Coordinator who will support you with your questions and share more detail about our resources and the process to partner.
We’re committed to laying solid foundations together to ensure the best outcomes for young people. If we’re in agreement, we’ll move forward with a Memorandum of Understanding.
Onboarding
To ensure a successful launch, we begin by introducing our National Theory of Change, a framework that guides our shared vision and desired outcomes.
Together with our support, training, resources, and through an onboarding calendar, the Theory of Change will help guide the setup and/or strengthen each of the following areas:
Governance
Systems
Programmes

Your support gives more kiwi youth access to life-skills through participation in and the discipline of boxing and physical fitness as well as to give them a place of refuge.
Here are common questions we come across when it comes to Champions Boxing Academies:
Amateur boxing, with its emphasis on safety and sportsmanship, offers a constructive way for young people to build character, maintain fitness, and learn valuable life skills. The sport instils important life values such as sportsmanship, humility, and perseverance, while developing focus, confidence, and the ability to deal with adversity and stress. It is also a very attractive activity to many young people, it is something they want to try rather feel forced to and they stay engaged for a longer period of time.
Amateur boxing, as a sport, has very stringent medical controls. Registration requires an annual medical, with another medical prior to every bout. Boxers are evenly matched according to age, weight, experience, and gender. Coaches at all Champions Initiative Academies are trained to deliver sound boxing techniques, while holding the appropriate licensing, along with first-aid, and child protection certification. Our programmes revolve around skill and fitness development, with contact during practice ranging from zero to mild for those who just want to train and compete.
Both youth and sports development research indicates that the greatest impact is made when as many individuals as possible are engaged, for as long as possible, and in the best environment. Our academies not only provide extended pathways for skill development and competition (for those that want it), but also provide the best environments possible.
