Passionate and Community Focused Manager Needed
Academy Manager
Location: Corner of Treadwell and Sladden Street, Naenae
Hours: Up to 40 hours per week Mon–Fri (with some flexibility)
Reports to: Naenae Youth Charitable Trust Board of Trustees
About Us
At Naenae Boxing Academy we believe in Champion young people contributing to their communities. Through the vehicle of Olympic-style boxing, we provide an enjoyable, safe, and challenging environment, built on solid community and powerful culture. Our approach goes beyond sport: we place young people’s needs at the centre, create a whānau atmosphere, and actively provide opportunities for them to achieve their hopes and dreams.
The Role
We are seeking an Academy Manager to lead daily operations and ensure the Champions Programme is delivered with excellence. The Manager is the connector — enabling coaches to put our members first, while you drive the systems, relationships, and sustainability that allow our young people to thrive.
You’ll oversee programme delivery, nurture team culture, build trusted relationships with whānau and community, and lead the Academy’s fundraising and operations. Most importantly, you’ll help shape an environment where young people grow in resilience, master skills, stay connected, and develop an outward focus that sees them giving back to those around them.
In the near future, the academy will be moving premises to Naenae Park, where we have been allocated land for a new and purpose-built boxing academy. While the project management will be outsourced to a professional crew, this is a project that will be front and centre for our new Manager.
Key Responsibilites
· Lead the delivery of the Champions Programme, aligning sessions with the Academy’s Theory of Change.
· Support coaches to track and respond to young people’s growth —from skill mastery through to resilience, confidence, and leadership.
· Build and maintain a strong, positive team culture where values are role-modelled daily.
· Oversee finances and sustainability: from budgets and compliance to fundraising, sponsorship, and local funding plans.
· Be the first point of contact for whānau and community partners, weaving together schools, Police, councils, Oranga Tamariki, and others.
· Ensure the Academy is a safe, clean, and welcoming place where everyone feels connected and valued.
· Create meaningful opportunities for young people — whether it’s tournaments, Outward Bound, leadership experiences, or pathways into work.
· Keep our story alive through social media, newsletters, and positive communication with stakeholders.
· Become part of our national collective community with Champions Initiative(CI). Including undertaking CI training, attending national meetings as well as CI staff and athlete events.
· A desire to uplift partnering CI gyms and give back to our wider CI collective nationally
What we are looking for
· A leader who shares our belief in boxing as the vehicle, youth development as the goal.
· Strong people skills — able to build trust, resolve conflict, and bring out the best in staff, volunteers, and young people.
· Experience in community leadership and/or programme delivery.
· Comfortable with digital tools (CRM or similar) and confident incompliance, health & safety, and child protection.
· A relationship-builder, woven into community life, who thrives on creating opportunities for young people.
· Organised, adaptable, and committed to laying the solid foundations for long-term success.
Why Join Us
This is more than a job — it’s a chance to stand ringside as young people learn to stop fighting and start boxing, build confidence, find belonging, and step into leadership. You’ll be part of a movement where culture, connection, and opportunity combine to change lives for good.
How to Apply
Please send your CV and a cover letter to Manager@nyct.org.nz, Applications will be reviewed as they are received, so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible. Telling us why you believe in this Kaupapa and how your experience will help champion young people contribute to their communities. The official closing date is 31 October
