We're really happy and proud to share the 2025 Champions Initiative Evaluation Report.

This marks the first year of our new three-year evaluation cycle and brings together data from our seven Champion Initiative Partner Academies. The evaluation captured the voices of rangatahi/members, their whānau and community partners such as police, schools, social services, and other organisations our academies work closely with.

All of this data has been collated into the main report, which gives a full breakdown, includes external evidence to back the work we do, and speaks directly to our working model.  Attached to this main report you will also find a two-page summary for each Champions Partner Academy, with a clear visual breakdown of the data collected from each location.

A significant highlight from the Evaluation:

Every single member who responded to the evaluation survey said their Champions Initiative Academy has made a positive difference in their life. Emphasis was given specifically to physical wellbeing, care and respect for others, sense of belonging, self-belief/confidence, and friendships.  This is worth celebrating!

The report shows strong evidence for the impact of the work. We know that when done well, sport has an undeniable ability to provide role models, positive peer groups, and transferable life skills that flow into school, whānau life, and work. Boxing is especially unique because it attracts young people from all walks of life, giving us an amazing opportunity to build communities that break down social barriers. We also know that some funders prefer not to fund sports. But, from the evidence found through this evaluation, we can be confident in the work we do.  What we provide is long-term engagement with young people who consistently choose to show up. Our work supports physical, social & emotional wellbeing, and creates pathways, opportunities, and a sense of hope for their future. Your academies provide connection, stability, belonging, routine, and purpose - all the things that sit at the heart of positive youth development.
